The Missing Piece You’ve Been Chasing? It Might Be a Split Definition

Summary: Explore the five types of Definition in Human Design: No Definition, Single, Split (Simple & Wide), Triple, and Quadruple. This post offers clear explanations for each and shares a personal story about what it feels like to live with a Split Definition. Learn how your internal energy wiring shapes your sense of self and why you may have always felt something was "missing."

Introduction

What if the reason you feel torn inside... is actually part of your design?

In Human Design, Definition refers to how energy flows between your Defined Centres. It explains how you process life internally and why some people feel whole on their own while others seem to be searching for a missing piece. It's about your consistent internal wiring.

Do you feel consistent inside, or are parts of you always waiting to connect?

Definition describes whether and how your Defined energy Centres are connected. There are five distinct types:

  • No Definition (Reflectors): No Defined Centre

  • Single Definition: All Defined Centres Connected in One Stream

  • Split Definition (Simple & Wide): Two Unconnected Defined Centres

  • Triple Split Definition: Three Unconnected Defined Centres

  • Quadruple Split Definition: Four Unconnected Defined Centres

Each one determines how you access clarity, how you process emotions and thoughts, and how much you may naturally depend on others (or not) to feel cohesive inside.

Have you ever looked for answers outside, only to realize your true design was inside all along?

Personal Story: Living With a Split

"I cried when I saw it. Because finally… nothing was wrong with me."

For years, I lived with a profound sense of internal separation, a persistent feeling that something was "missing" or "wrong" with me. I struggled to express my insights and opinions, always searching for the details to back up my opinions and the ideas to describe my stories, a sense of integration I couldn't quite grasp. Then, I discovered my Human Design chart revealed two Defined but unconnected areas – a Split Definition. It was a moment of profound realisation: this wasn't a flaw to fix, but a design to honour.

"Your definition doesn't need to be healed; it needs to be understood and accepted."

What if you're not missing something, just waiting for the right bridge?

Key Insight

A Split Definition isn't something to fix; it's an energetic invitation to witness the gap without force. It's about trusting that the right bridges – often through interactions with others – will naturally come into your experience when you follow your Strategy and Authority.

What if your clarity isn't lost, just in motion, waiting to land?

Teaser for Part 2

In Part 2, we’ll explore how Definition plays out directly in relationships. We'll delve into what happens when two people either bridge or don't bridge each other's energy, expanding the story from inner alignment to relational intelligence.
