The Illusion of Identity: Mystery of The G Centre

A story of the G Centre of a seven-year-old in danger and the Compass within.

The G Centre

The G Centre in Human Design is the centre of:

  • Identity

  • Love

  • Direction

Located in the middle of the BodyGraph, the yellow diamond is often called the magnetic monopole, representing the pull toward where you're meant to go, who you're here to be, and with whom you're meant to be.

Some people have it Defined, consistent, like an inner compass.
Others, like Emma and Alex, carry it, Undefined, open, fluid, and deeply sensitive to place and people.

This is their story.
And yours, too, if you’ve ever felt lost while searching for who you are.

💬 When it’s healthy (True Self behaviour), the Defined G says:
“I know who I am, and I trust my direction.”

🧭A Moment of Inner Compass: The Defined G

I was seven.
There was a riot in our small town, and our teachers told us to leave school immediately.
No one came to pick me up. My uncles and aunties were at work. My grandmother was at the market.
So, I ran.

The Defined G Centre

I didn’t run away from danger. I ran into it.

Toward the very heart of the chaos. Toward the streets where children were being taken.

I found myself right there, in the centre of it. A man walked past, someone who was taking children. I stood in his path.
But he didn’t see me.
It was like I wasn’t even there.

Moments later, the way home opened up, clear, direct, unmistakable. I ran. I arrived home. Safe.

As a child, I didn’t understand. But looking back… it was the presence of something. Something deeply directional. I didn’t think, I just knew. My body moved, and I was protected.

This is the quiet power of a Defined G, direction that doesn’t explain itself. It moves when it’s time.

I didn’t have logic.

I had Direction.

💬 When unhealthy (shadow or Not-Self behaviour), the Defined G says:
“If I change, I’ll lose who I am.”

And that’s the mystery of the Defined G Centre. It doesn’t wonder. It doesn’t waver. It just moves.

If your G Centre is Defined, you have a consistent sense of self.

This doesn’t mean you have everything figured out, but it means your identity, love, and direction come from within, not from the outside world.

You may:

✅ Feel drawn to certain people, places, or paths without needing to explain it.
✅ Stay true to yourself even when others change.

But in its unhealthy state:

❌ You may resist change, fearing it threatens your identity.
❌ You might stay in roles that no longer fit, just to maintain stability.
❌ You can close yourself off to love, thinking you have to prove yourself first.

🔶 The Undefined G in Its Not-Self: Emma’s Story

💬 When unhealthy (shadow or Not-Self behaviour), the Undefined G says:
“If I just find the right person or place, I’ll finally know who I am.”

The Fluid Identity: Meet Emma

Emma wants to know who she is.
She wants to find love. Direction. Meaning.
She follows others, hoping their path will become hers.
She clings to places that once felt good, even if they no longer do.

Her thoughts are loud (like the mind is), and it says:
💭 “Is this where I’ll finally be loved?”
💭 “Maybe if I stay, I’ll become someone.”

There is nothing wrong with her; it is just the way the Not-Self mind thinks, but Emma listens to her mind, not her Inner Authority.
She’s just trying to find stability in a Centre that isn’t meant to hold it..

If your G Centre is Undefined, your identity is open, adaptive, and receptive to your environment.

But in its unhealthy state:

❌ You might feel lost or fake.
❌ You may chase people, jobs, or cities to “find” yourself.
❌ You could try to hold on to one version of yourself out of fear.

💬 When it’s healthy (True Self behaviour), the Undefined G says:
“I become what is needed, and I flow with what is.”

🔶 The Undefined G in Its True-Self: Alex’s Story

The Fluid Identity: Meet Alex

Alex used to feel lost, too.
But something shifted. Thanks to Human Design.
He stopped chasing identity and started listening.

Alex moves through the world like a traveller.
Not looking for home, but allowing home to find him.
He reflects the people around him, sees their truth, and doesn’t need to be anything but present.

Alex doesn’t cling.
He thanks people, places, and experiences, and lets them go.

That’s the gift of the Undefined G.
It doesn’t define, it reflects.

💬 When it’s healthy, the Undefined G says:
“I become what is needed and I flow with what’s real”

Undefined G Centre: In the True Self

If your G Centre is Undefined, your identity is open, adaptive, and responsive to your environment.

Like Alex

You may:

💎 Shape-shift in different environments and relationships.

💎 A natural chameleon who feels at home in many places.

💎 Feel deeply connected to the identities of others.

💎 Express many versions of yourself with authenticity, e.g., Brad Pitt or Sandra Bullock.

💎Teach others what love and direction feel like.

In a healthy state, the Undefined G becomes a mirror of love and direction for the collective.

But the Not-Self sneaks in when you think:

❌ “I don’t know who I am unless I’m around the right people”.

❌ “If I change, I must be lost”.

❌ “I need to find the perfect place, person, or career to be whole”.

✨You are not a failure. You are designed to be fluid.

Reflect the many - wear different hats, take on different roles without attaching to any.

Be a living mirror to love and identity in its many expressions, without attachment.✨

🔑 The Wisdom of the Undefined G

Here’s the secret:
The Undefined G Centre is not here to fix its identity.

It’s here to witness identity in motion.

People like Alex, and even Emma when she becomes aware. In time, this brings deep wisdom:

💎 You see others’ direction.

💎 You love without trying to hold on.

💎 You thrive in fluidity.

💎 You guide not by knowing, but by being open.

🔸 Final Reflection

💬 Let’s Pause for You

✨ What’s your G Centre like, Defined or Undefined?

✨ Do you feel like you’re searching for direction or rediscovering your own?

✨ What would change if you stopped chasing love and started trusting yourself?

🧠 Share your reflections with someone or voice them aloud to yourself.

You don’t have to know who you are to live fully.
You don’t have to find love; it will find you.
You are not here to be a fixed identity.
You are here to reflect all the paths, all the possibilities of roles.

And the moment you begin living Your Design, not by pressure, you remember what you’ve always known:

🧭 You are the compass.

💛You are the love.

👣And you’ve never been lost.

🌿 Let life show you the way.
